About your guide
Let me introduce myself. I am Gary Wall and I have a passion for Surf Fishing. Having grown up on the Outer Banks, I had the pleasure of fishing beside some truly legendary fishermen and women In Nags Head and Cape Hatteras. I have enjoyed fishing a variety of beaches and tournaments up and down the east coast for over 45 years, catching multiple citations and many fish dinners. After retiring from Federal Service, my wife Susan, Sammy the Beach Dog and I moved to Wilmington, NC. I look forward to helping you have the best possible fishing and beach experience.
Surf Fishing
Surf Fishing is much different from boat fishing. It tasks a different skill and keen eye to "read" the beach, select a spot that will potentially produce fish, select bait, weights and rigs for the conditions and of course a little patience. While we can't guarantee a catch, we can guarantee a great experince....but keep the frying pan ready !
Hands on learning
For those who are just starting out or who may have never surf fished, this is the experince you've been looking for! We will begin with a short assessment of your fishing experince and tailor the lessons and tips through out the day according to what you already know and what you desire to learn.
Shared Wisdom
Surf Fishing is a mixture of having the right gear and knowing what to do. Beach, tides and weather are constantly changing. We hope to share some of the wisdom gained through years of fishing in diverse and changing conditions.
Need A Rod and Reel?
While we will provide you with rods and reels during your beach adventure with us, if you are interested in purchasing a rod and reel, we have great options on entry and advanced level gear available. Please let us know during your trip if you are interested. We are here to help! We can arrange for shipping!
Your ride or Ours?
Depending on where we decide to fish, we have some options.
For fishing at Fort Fisher, we will use a 4 wheel drive truck and drive out on the sand. This is a prefered spot and means of getting out on the beach. My truck is a 2021 GMC Caynon with a shell.
- Fully Air-Conditioned
- Room for 5 adults including the guide
- Front mounted Rod/Cooler rack
- Plenty of room for gear. (Tackle, Chairs, Umbrellas, etc..)
- I also bring a portable toilet and a privacy tent for all of our convence. Public Toilets are available before we head out to the beach.
- You may also purchase a day pass at Ft Fisher if you should decide to use your own 4 wheel drive. I do not recommend all wheel drive and I insist on airing down.
For areas where there is no 4 wheel drive access, I have a beach cart capable of transporting rods, a cooler and some tackle and gear. Transporting chairs, umbrellas and other items will be a team effort but no more than a normal day on the beach!
